KNTRL9 Editor

You need the editor if you want to customize the controls and LEDs. For instance to work with specific hardware or when you prefer a higher precision using NRPN or 14 bit CC.

* Important for Mac users: You need to grant an exception for the app by clicking the Open Anyway button in the General pane of Security & Privacy preferences. This button is available for about an hour after you try to open the app. To change these preferences on your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Security & Privacy , then click General.

Presets

You can load these presets using the Load preset functionality in the editor. If you have created a preset yourself that you would like to share, send me a message and we will add it here. To download, use right click, Save file as...

All 14 bits

This sets up each knob as 14 bit control, making sure that the numbers don't interfere with each other.

Firmware updates

Important: Please do not use the editor to upload the firmware; it does not work (yet). I will create an article that explains how to update your KNTRL9 soon.

If you have version 0.4, you can still work with your controller, but know that there is one small bug when using Ableton remote scripts. When pressing shift and releasing it immediately (without moving left or right using the arrows while pressing shift), the controller enters an unknown mode. You can get out of this by holding shift and moving left or right and then releasing shift. The controller will then work normally. This is fixed in version 0.5 but I currently don't have time to write instructions on how to update.

Version 1.0

Ableton MIDI remote script

With the Ableton MIDI remote script, the KNTRL9 will automatically set the controls and the colors of the LEDs according to the tracks in Ableton and you will be able to select the tracks using the arrow buttons on the controller. This also makes sure that the KNTRL9 uses a higher precision as the standard MIDI CC messages.

If you would like to use the Ableton remote script, you need to download and install it. For instructions on how this works, please look at Ableton's MIDI remote script installation guide.

For information on how the Ableton remote script works, see the instruction video. Note that this is about the previous version of the KNTRL9 but the principle is still the same.

Version 0.1.3 (beta)

Important: This version is still in beta. Feel free to try it out but don't use it in live sets yet as there still may be bugs. For a list of known bugs, see the version history.
